Discover the Diros Caves

Diros caves and underground landscape

South of Areopoli, in Pirgos Dirou, a 4 km road branches off towards the sea and ends at a bay where the Diros Caves are located. They consist of three caves: Glyfada, Alepotripa, and Katafigi.

The Alepotripa Cave (“Fox Hole”, named after its discovery during a fox chase) is known for its prehistoric findings. The cave is 6,500 sqm in size, 60 m wide, and 30 m high.

The Glyfada Cave, also known as Vlychada, is accessible to visitors and lies about 250 m below the surface. It is one of the most important caves in Greece and is considered one of the most beautiful water caves in the world that can be explored by boat. The Glyfada Cave is an underground river with two branches.

The cave covers an area of approximately 17,000 sqm. The boat route is about 900 m long with a duration of around 30 minutes. Water depths range between 50 m and 30 m. The cave chambers are very low, and the formations of stalactites and stalagmites are highly diverse.
