In a quiet corner on the eastern coast of the Peloponnese, close to Monemvasia, nature has revealed its grandeur by creating a fjord that is unique in Greece. Gerakas offers visitors rare scenery that is more reminiscent of distant Norway than this part of the southern Mediterranean.

Gerakas, known as “Ierax” during Byzantine times, served as a naval base in the fight against the Saracens and later as a refuge for Frankish pirates during their raids on Monemvasia. In Venetian times, it was known as Porto Cadena, named after the chain (“cadena”) used to control access to the bay’s entrance. The picturesque settlement resembles more an Aegean island than a small harbor in Laconia.

On the hillside lies the settlement of Gerakas, with its hamlets named after the surnames of the families living there: Lafkaika, Kretikaika, Karaganaika, Tzortzaika, and Koulouraika.

Currently, we do not offer holiday homes in Gerakas. We recommend holiday homes and apartments in other areas of Laconia.
